Monkey Lord envisions a post-apocalyptic future devoid of human beings, where the natural world expands.
The initial outburst from Monkey Lord, to Chapman’s surprise, went to No. 1 on iTunes Alternative chart, despite his original intention for the EP to be a mere one-off. Monkey Lord is perfectly suited for glass of wine fuelled relaxation, a meditative journey, or drifting off to sleep. It works well as the backdrop for open-world video games, too, with ebbs, flows, and aural depth.
monkey lord vibe
Monkey Lord’s vibe is much more spiritual sounding, devoid of drum kits or bass guitars. It’s more to do with the planet thriving, irrespective of what humankind gets up to. The music puts the listener square in the middle of a naturalistic landscape. For example, “Guided by Ghosts” is set in the desert, complete with gusts of wind and far off Bedouin percussion. “Siberian Sunshine & Glacial Silhouette” is a glassier place, with the sounds of glass creaking, cracking, and drifting.
